Sanford Underground Research Facility:
Originally the Homestake Gold Mine, the largest and deepest in North America, this facility has been repurposed into a leading physics research laboratory. Visitors can learn about the pioneering experiments conducted here, including those into dark matter and neutrinos.

George S. Mickelson Trail:
A 109-mile trail stretching from Deadwood to Edgemont, this trail offers a unique outdoor experience. The trail is used for hiking, horseback riding, cycling, and cross-country skiing in the winter. Along the way, you can enjoy scenic views of the Black Hills and spot wildlife.

Historic Homestake Opera House:

In nearby Deadwood, just a short drive from Lead, you can visit this beautifully preserved Victorian house, which was once the residence of two of Deadwood’s founding families. The house's authentic interiors and antiques give a glimpse into life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Deadwood:
This historic town, located just a few miles from Lead, is famous for its wild west history. Deadwood rose during the gold rush of the late 1800s and was once home to notable characters such as Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane. Today, you can explore the town's historic main street, visit the Adams Museum, gamble in one of the town's many casinos, or take part in a reenactment of a gunfight. In addition, Mount Moriah Cemetery, where many of Deadwood's notable figures are buried, offers stunning views over the town.
